Periodontitis is a serious gum infection that causes damage to the gums and bone that can jeopardize the health of your teeth. Healthy gums are usually pink in color. Some symptoms or periodontitis include:
- Red swollen gums
- Gums that recede from the teeth
- Loose teeth
- Bad breath
In some cases the infection could be deep below the surface and may not appear to have external symptoms. If left untreated periodontitis can lead to significant gum recession and bone loss. The effects can be stopped if proper treatment is sought. Once restored further complications can be prevented with proper care.
